Sedef was born in Istanbul, in Turkey, and she began her musical training at the age of6 at Istanbul’s National Conservatory, where she obtained a higher diploma in piano in1986, and subsequently in cello in 1987.After moving to Paris to continue her studies, between 1989 and 1991, she achievedan Execution Diploma and a Higher Diploma for teaching at l’Ecole Normale deMusique de Paris, and a Superior Diploma in chamber music.She has taken part in Geneviève Taulières’ master classes, and in classes held byRaphaël Sommer, Hugh Mackenzie, the Moscow’s Soloists and Boris Baraz.During her stay in Paris, she has recorded Bach’s suites, and has been advancing hersolo by playing with some of the most important European orchestras.Together with pianist Maria Papapetropoulou, she received the Prix Abdi-Itekçi in 1999and the Prix de la Paix et de l’Amitié Turco-Grecque.

(Prize for the Turkish-Greek Peaceand Harmony). Sedef is an equally formidable performer of classical music, jazz and tango. Her talentgoes beyond the limits of genre. She is a very in-demand musician on an internationalscale because of her improvisations of world music.She has improvised with Liz McComb, Gerardo Di Giusto Camerata’s Quartet Ambigua,Florin Niculescu ‘s Quatuor Drina, but also with Kerem Görsev’s Jazz trio and rockgroup Hubestang.More recently, Sedef pushed her musical boundaries all the way to hip-hop, playingbeside Kanye West and his band.She often shares the stage with artists such as Diana Krall, Manu Dibango, BarbaraLuna, Henri Salvador and Christian Escoudé ; she also played alongside Pavarotti whilehe was a member of the European Soloist Orchestra.
